The Carson City Host Lions Club is pleased to announce it is once again selling See’s Candies as a fundraiser for its Vision Preservation and other programs.

The Lions are selling See’s Candies at two locations in Carson City. The candy trailer located across from the entrance to Costco will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and their booth in the Carson City Mall will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

They will be at those locations until Christmas Eve or until they sell out. The Lions are selling quite a variety of See’s Candies ranging in cost from $8 to $23 per box.

Lions are known throughout the world for their work to improve the lives of the visually impaired and prevent avoidable blindness. Lions International programs range from developing and improving eye care systems and treatments to distributing medications to those most at-risk for eye diseases.

Here in Carson City, the Lions help about 90 to 100 Carson City residents annually get eye exams and eyeglasses who could not otherwise afford them, and the net proceeds from candy sales helps them help people in need.

The Carson City Lions partner with Bristlecone Family Eyecare, Dr. Gibbons, and Deputy Optics to provide eye exams and eyewear. They also work with the staff at FISH and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center to receive and process applications from potential candidates needing assistance.

Other agencies occasionally also make referrals. Sometimes a client needs cataract or other eye surgery and the Carson City Lions work with the Lions Eye Foundation to provide eye care other than glasses. They also subsidize the cost of transportation to the Lions Eye Foundation facilities.

Carson City Lions also contribute to Canine Companions for Independence and Leader Dogs for the Blind. These organizations obtain, train, and place dogs to provide mobility and assistance for persons with sight, physical, developmental, and hearing disabilities.

Carson City Lions also collect used eyewear (no dark glasses) to recycle and redistribute to people worldwide in need of prescription eyewear. Check out the Club’s website here for the 13 collection locations in Carson City.
